Apps or applications are programs with a wide array of functionalities that run under Android. They can be classified into two main categories preinstalled and user installed.
Preinstalled apps are either system apps that maintain functionality of the device or apps that the Mobile Phone manufacturer wanted to include or was required to include in his operating system. For example all the apps from the Google Mobile Suite or carrier specific apps.
